Young Richard wonders if Christmas will come this year. Money is tight for most families in 1933, and the Lindsay family is well-acquainted with hardship. Richard asks his widowed mother about how they can afford Christmas, but she reassures him that their family has everything they need. Without a Christmas turkey, they will have the fat red rooster from the chicken coop.
“What about the rest of Christmas?” Richard asks. “Where will that come from?”
Richard get an idea, and with his mother's help, he comes up with a plan to give gifts to all the people he loves.
