- "I began this image with the intent to paint an aesthetically pleasing in some way ennobling image of Joseph. My desire was to preserve this pivotal moment, abiding and unblemished. However, in depicting Joseph acquiring the plates I could not help but marvel at the pivotal nature of this sublime event. From that moment on, Joseph knew his life would be had for both good and evil throughout the world. No painting can convey such invisible immensity. So, in essence, I could only portray Joseph kneeling, humble and dignified, his whole being enlightened by the presence of the Angel Moroni. It is my hope that the viewer would reflect on Joseph's purity and selfless subjection to the will of God, and be encouraged by God's work through small and simple things."
