Details

Young Mary Goble, age thirteen, and her family emigrated from England and joined the pioneer overland journey to Utah Territory as part of the John A. Hung wagon company in 1856. They traveled close to the Edward martin handcart company. Both companies were trapped in Wyoming snowstorms, suffering from exposure, exhaustion, and hunger.
Many of the family members lost their lives on the journey to the Salt Lake Valley, but they lived their convictions, because, as Mary's mother told her, "I want to go to Zion while my children are small, so they can be raised in the Gospel of Christ, for I know this is the true Church."

This is a story of trials, faith and overcoming adversity. The core of the book is a transcription of Mary's handwritten memoir with annotations that transcription of Mary's handwritten memoir with annotations that corroborate, correct, and provide context. This powerful and moving account is uniquely bookended by an introduction and epilogue that place Mary's story of her journey in the context of her life before and after her emigration.
Hard cover.
