Light is a many-faceted gift from God. It enables vision, alters perception, enhances beauty, reveals truth, inspires hope, evokes joy. Light clarifies, edifies, and glorifies. The light of the world is Jesus Christ.

For 150 years, Brigham Young University has nurtured divine gifts of light in its students, preparing them to reflect the light of Christ to the world. At BYU, children of God seek light and truth through academic study and religious faith. As they aspire to be like their heavenly parents, students are transformed in light, and “that light groweth brighter and brighter”—"that all may be edified of all" (Doctrine and Covenants 50:24; 88:122).

As Brigham young University commemorates its sesquicentennial anniversary, this book celebrates a century and a half of seeking, receiving, and sharing gifts of light: traditions and teachers, pupils and places, studies and service—reflections of heavenly light for the benefit of the world.
